The Strand Theater presents a classic film screening of the 2x Oscar Winning John Ford film “The Quiet Man”, with a special introduction from film historian and author, Jeremy Arnold. This screening is part of Classic Movie Mondays, The Strand’s weekly summer film series.
After accidentally killing an opponent in the ring, boxer Sean Thornton leaves America and returns to his native Ireland, hoping to buy his family’s homestead and live in peace. In doing so, he runs afoul of Will Danaher, who long coveted the property. Spitefully, Will objects when his fiery sister, Mary Kate, begins a romance with Sean and refuses to hand over her dowry. Mary Kate refuses to consummate the marriage until Sean retrieves the money.

Jeremy Arnold is an author, film historian and commentator who has written three books for Turner Classic Movies and Running Press: “The Essentials Volumes 1 and 2”, and “Christmas in the Movies”, recently published in an expanded edition. His writing has also appeared in other books as well as Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Noir City magazine, Moviemaker, numerous essays and liner notes for home entertainment releases, and over eight hundred programming articles for the TCM website. His commentating work includes some two dozen audio commentary tracks for the Blu-ray or DVD release of classic films; guest appearances on TCM with Ben Mankiewicz and CNN with Jake Tapper; and speaking engagements at film festivals, museums, and repertory screenings across the country.
In July 2023, Jeremy programmed and guest-hosted, with Ben Mankiewicz, a 20-film TCM spotlight on B movies of the 1930s and 1940s. He regularly programs and hosts 35mm screenings of B rarities at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles.
